Pre-Mission-Call Countdown

  • Work and save for mission
  • Learn to lead music, and if possible play the piano
  • Be physically active; keep weight down
  • Know how to study, work, clean house, wash own clothes
  • Learn how to repair a bike
  • Keep a clean driving record
  • Avoid pornography (Internet, entertainment, music, magazines, etc.)
  • Stay morally clean
  • Keep the Word of Wisdom
  • Avoid serious relationships (95% of missionaries are Dear Johned)
  • Use clean language
  • Have a solid testimony
  • Pay a full honest tithe
  • Limit time spent on computer games (or other like entertainment)
  • Daily study the scriptures      
  • Understand the message of the Restoration        
  • Serve others        
  • Share an appropriate testimony (not a thank-a-mony or travel log)        
  • Complete Duty to God program        
  • Get medical appointments - year before         
  • Get Wisdom teeth pulled, and other major work done
  • Dental check-up/cleaning
  • Eye exam - do you need glasses?
  • Physical - make sure immunizations are current; TB; Hep.
  • Go with missionaries on mission splits        
  • Take missionary prep classes

     Camera - wait until call for specifics

  • Ask Bishop for mission physical forms 4 months before birthday        
     Eye exam
     Mission Physical
     Dental check-up/cleaning

Mission Countdown        

  • Mission Call comes        
  • Create a mission binder with sheet protectors
  • Make a copy of Mission General Instructions, and put in binder        
  • Make 3 copies of mission call for missionary, and one for binder
  • Go to Public Health building for extra immunizations
  • Get missionary haircut
  • Get passport (if needed) pictures and passport from city hall
  • Have college ward records transferred back home ward
  • Make appointment online with DMV for license renewal, and get driving record printout
  • Make appt. for temple recommend interview with Bishop
  • Make appt. for temple recommend interview with Stake Pres.
  • Prepare a list of names of those who might attend temple with you
  • Make appt. with temple for endowments
  • Contact bishop about farewell talk date and temple date
  • Research large purchases such as shoes, coat, luggage
  • Go to bank for parent to become joint member on checking account
  • Purchase garments, temple clothes, baptismal clothes
  • Attend Bishop's interview
  • Attend Stake President's interview
  • Send BYU student status deferment letter to BYU when you know MTC entrance date
  • Notify family members of temple date, and time
  • Order CTR Ring in country language (if needed)
  • Call temple to verify # of guests coming
  • Fill out Visa form (if needed)
  • Fill out Missionary Immunization form
  • Make trip to Utah for purchases from Mr. Macs or other missionary store
  • Make local store purchases
  • Go to luggage store for luggage tags, airless bags, luggage straps, approved locks, etc.
  • Get scriptures and mini hymnbook engraved with name
  • When passport comes, make copies, mail to Travel dept. & mission president
  • Make first mission payment to bishop (first day of month entering MTC)
  • Make more local store purchases
  • Go to temple for Endowments
  • Give favorite scripture & picture to Bishop for plaque
  • Reduce and laminate Patriarchal blessing & Priesthood line of authority for scriptures
  • Make mailing labels with MTC address, and home address
  • Make mini family photo album
  • Get cash out for MTC
  • Start packing
  • Travel to MTC
